IFC Caged Combat “Sturgis 2008”
STURGIS FIGHT WEEK AT THE IFC THUNDER ARENA
Mixed Martial Arts is coming to Sturgis in a big way. Dozens of the nation’s most exciting MMA fighters will converge on the IFC Thunder Arena, next to the Thunder Dome, on Thunder Road for five straight nights of rugged MMA fighting in the IFC steel cage. Each night will feature 10 or more fights in different weight classes. Besides the usual high intensity excitement of no holds barred cage fighting, these fighters will be trying out for their more than fifteen minutes of fame in a new reality series on network television. On hand to capture all the fight action and all of the action of the Sturgis Rally will be several crews from Original Productions. These are the same guys that bring you DEADLIEST CATCH, ICE ROAD TRUCKERS, AXEMEN and more. What they did for fisherman, lumberjacks, truck drivers and others, Original Productions is now doing for fighters and Sturgis. Original productions will be capturing the blood, sweat and pain of Mixed Martial Arts with several episodes emanating from one of the most exciting settings possible – the IFC Thunder Arena at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
Mixed Martial Arts is exploding in popularity around the world. During a MMA fight fighters are allowed to punch, kick, knee, throw, choke, forearm, arm bar, leg lock and otherwise incapacitate their opponents. They are not allowed to bite, bend back their opponents toes or fingers, spit or pull their opponents hair. Otherwise, just about anything else goes while locked in the cage. Women fight under the same rules as men. Opponents are matched by weight and skill level.
The event will be under the auspices of IFC Caged Combat, one of the oldest MMA companies in the world. Founded in 1996, former and current IFC Champions include Chuck Liddell, Eugene Jackson, Rich Franklin, Tim Silva, Jens Pulver, Dan Severn, Igor Vovchachin, Matt Lindland, Paul Buentello, Jeremy Horn and many other top fighters in MMA. IFC fighters come from many backgrounds; they are respected as some of the best athletes in the world. Most use a combination of boxing, wrestling, open hand combat and martial arts fighting techniques in the cage. Bouts can be won by knockout, submission or by the scorecard. There are three five-minute rounds in a non-championship bout and five five-minute rounds in a championship bout. Known for their extreme, no holds barred fighting in the steel cage IFC fighters will do just about anything necessary to win.
The action takes place starting Sunday, August 3 at 7:30 PM at the IFC Thunder Arena located right next to the Thunder Dome on Thunder Road. It continues on every night through Thursday. During the day Fighters will also have open training available in the cage. Check it all out!
