Welcome to the Crusher's corner again fight fans.  This installment will cover the 38th Kick Down show that took place at the Red Lion hotel in Denver, Colorado Friday, June 29th, 2007.  This is the third time in the history of the fight promotion that the fights took place on Friday night and the event preceded the eight year anniversary of MartialArtsRadio.com by one week.

The fight descriptions will be abbreviated as I was doing double duty with live play-by-play commentary for the DVD's as well as taking notes for this article.

Bout one: Joe Salley Vs Justin Latka.  Both fighters came out striking and Latka got the takedown, but it was Salley sinking in the guillotine choke for the win at :37 of round one.

Bout two: Ryan Scollard Vs Nick Honstein for the Kick Down Bantamweight amateur MMA title.  This was a very technical bout with great grappling displayed by both combatants.  At the 1:53 mark of round two Honstein got the triangle choke for the win and the title.

Bout three: Scott Tamblin Vs Jeremy Hernandez.  In a fairly one sided affair Honstein worked strong GNP to get the referee stoppage and the win at 2:33 of round two.

Bout four: Tony Miller Vs Jeff Soucy.  This bout featured great grappling and smooth positional transitions from both fighters, but in the end Miller got the win with a Rear Naked Choke (RNC) at 2:10 or round one.

Bout five: Tim Ridley Vs Ken Scott.  Round one was dominated by Ridley and took place almost exclusively on the ground.  Round two by contrast was all Scott on the feet.  When Ridley was unable to answer the bell for round three the win went to Scott at 3:00 of round two.

Bout six: Anthony Sanchez, Jr. Vs Kyle Johnson for the Kick Down Welterweight amateur MMA title.  Johnson quickly got the fight to the ground and once there he dominated.  At 1:41 of round one he sunk in the RNC for the win.

Bout seven: Louise Johnson Vs Clara Curtiss.  Curtiss displayed good takedown skill and ground control, but it was Johnson with the reversal, triangle choke attempt and eventually dominant Ground-and-Pound (GNP) attack to secure the victory by referee stoppage at 2:50 of round one.

Bout eight: Greg Shipporeit Vs Rainbow Goodhunts.  Goodhunts got the early takedown, displayed good positional control, then rained down strikes from full mount to get the GNP referee stoppage at 2:12 of round one.

Bout nine: Dominic Blanco Vs Isaac Colon for the Kick Down, Jr. Featherweight amateur MMA title.  Colon looked good in round one and was ahead on the scorecards, while Blanco turned the tables to win round two.  The championship round was a short one as Colon secured an early guillotine choke for the submission victory at :19 of round three.

The rest of the bouts are contested in the professional class and other than the Main Event are two five minute rounds.

Bout 10: Joey Welch Vs Jason Dake.  Welch got the early takedown, transitioned to full mount and secured the submission victory with an armbar at :26 of round one.

Bout 11: Tom Johnson Vs John Sargent.  Sargent trapped Johnson's first kick and got the takedown.  From the bottom Johnson had multiple submission attempts and at :51 of round one he sunk in the armbar for the win.

Bout 12: Cruz Chacon Vs Chris Woods in the CO-Main event.  Round one consisted of great ground action and both fighters displaying technical transition skills.  Round two had Woods with several good reversals, but Chacon opened with a strong GNP flurry and the referee stepped in and stopped the bout at 3:32 of round two giving Chacon the win.

Bout 13: Brian Christina Vs Damond Clark in the Main Event for the Kick Down Heavyweight Professional MMA title in three five minute rounds.  Clark immediately threw 2-3 punches and dropped Christina.  Christina appeared to be out on his way to the mat, but recovered almost immediately after hitting the canvas.  However, the referee was already stepping in to stop the bout and Clark got the Knock Out win at :11 of round one.

Definitely congrats to Isaac. I figured this would be a tough one. Blanco has got to be one of if not the strongest guy in that weight class. Isaac solidifies himself as a true champion with this win.
