Kickdown 39: Dynamite
kd39.gif
On Saturday evening two combatants that carry a large part of the history into the 39th installment of the Kick Down Mixed Martial Arts promotion will face one another for the Feather Weight MMA title. Tom Johnson fought as an amateur and in the under card of the Chuck Norris World Combat League test pilot at the Kick Down and made his professional debut in the Kick Down. Pete Vandervort has competed in the promotion more than any participant in its history. He is the former lightweight amateur MMA champion and made his professional debut in the Kick Down. It is only fitting that two people get an opportunity to be rewarded for what they have meant to the Kick Down in and out of the ring stated Steve Alley the promoter of the Kick Down organization. Not only do both deserve to be there fighting for the title they will both go down in history as the first to fight for the right to hold the title. More than that it should be a great fight between two veterans. Joey Welch returns to face Damon Sena who will also make his professional debut as well as Manuel Gallardo who will vacate the amateur ranks to make his professional debut after a very successful mark as an amateur holding the Colorado State title and Kick Down lightweight and Junior Light Weight titles respectively. Gallardo will face a man that has never backed down from any fight in MMA. He is John Sargent. The fight card will feature fighters from Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Utah. Simon Gonzales will face Bud Lawson for the vacated Middle Weight amateur MMA title. Sebastian Puente the current champion will vacate on an interim basis until he is ready to come back to claim the title he currently holds. 10 new fighters will grace the Kick Down ring and the promotion will continue to build upon the fact that so many fighters in the region get their start in what is described as the best of the smaller shows in America. Women's kick boxing will return to the event and the first bout of the evening will feature Kim Blanchard vs Rachael Sahlburg in Modified Muay Thai.

Both the main event guys are really tough, should be a good scrap. Sebastian Puente was good when I saw him a few months ago and Im sure he has improved. Manuel Gallardo was pretty tough if I remember too. Also Joey Welch was a little scrapper too. Thats all I know so far on the card.

The card is looking good so far. What about the rest of it?

I find it easier to follow Denver fighters (and promotions) because there is less turn over and fewer newbies. Take the KD for example, the cards are usually made up of more than half returning fighters (most of which have fought numerous times on KD cards). Compare that to a NME card where I might recognize 2-3 names total. TOS does a better job than NME but I still end up not knowing most of the fighters.

Then there's ROF which always uses the same fighters. It's always "ROF guys" versus cans for the most part. RMBB uses the same names a lot as well.

Your right the kickdown is definately the best show that i have personally fought on and most of the fighters are returning fighters...i do believe that the nme show has some great potential though, i go to them and corner and i always see a good size crowd...just keep in mind it is an up and coming show, meaning the top fighters aren't going to be fighting on it every month at first...i would give it some time though

BTW no shot outs for TOS having some very good Colorado Fighters on their show? Also they have a whole slew of returning fighters.

Actually I just looked and Steve Alley has his preliminary fight card up for his August 18th card in Wyoming as well. This is pathetic if your card is not up by now.
