Kick Down 43: Total Combat
November 2, 2007, Red Lion Hotel, Denver, Colorado
Reprinted from MartialArtsRadio.com

Welcome back to the Crusher's corner fight fans. Denver based fight promoter Steve Alley and Alley fight Productions produced the forty-third installment of the Kick Down fight show at the Red Lion Hotel November 2, 2007, in Denver, Colorado.

The event promoter took a bit of a risk in this show by having over 70% of the fighters on the card making their fight and/or Kick Down debut.  With unknown talent and untested combatants comprising the majority of the show the risk was substantial.  However, as is with most risk, the potential pay off was substantial as well.  And pay off it did...with the "sleeper" fight show of the year.

This writer has long been a believer that some of the best fights come from fighters looking to make a name for themselves in their initial foray into competition combative athletics; and that was definitely born out on this night.  The evening had something for everyone: A female Muay Thai bout, a men's Muay Thai title bout, Quick finishes, slick submissions, KO's and TKO's, as well as majority and split decisions from the judges.

Those in attendance got to witness the start of what will almost certainly be some stellar careers.  Without a doubt there were champions in the making showcasing their talent(s) this night.  Below are the results, and be sure to check the event calendar on the site for upcoming events.

Best in Health and Training, J. R. "Crusher" Gordon

Cameron's fight with Kelley was a good old fashioned slugfest. Both fighters were dropping some bombs. Thurgood has a helluva chin cause a few of those shots fell flush on his face. Most fighters who take a shot like that either 1)get KO'ed or 2)back off a little bit. But, Thurgood stayed in there and had a heck of a fight. That decision really could of gone either way, it was a very close fight.

Good night of fights. Props to Robert Martinez. He is for real. Josh broke his hand in the first few seconds. But I think Martinez is th real deal. We look forward to fighting him again after the break heals

Any comments on the female bout?

The females bout was pretty action packed. I had Blanchard winning the fight. Dia came with some strong leg kicks, but Blanchard pushed the action and had some great crosses that sealed the deal.

To be honest, all the female kickboxing matches recently have been very exciting. I know a lot of the girls are transitioning to MMA, hopefully more and more females go that route. It's great seeing the standup, but it also adds a great ground dimension to the equation.

Steve Alley's promotions always seem to raise the bar for MMA. I'm glad this one was no different. Congratulations

Honestly Eric I would assume fighters would be lined up to be on his cards.

As far as the female bout goes I felt Csay dominated in the first two rounds with more pressing and strikes while Blanchard was wearing her down with clinches. Kim came out much more aggressive in the third round and that's why the judges scored in her favor. It could have gone either way for me. Possibly a draw!

I don't know about 'dominated', Kim had her share of strikes in those first two rounds as well.

I agree with you on this fight going either way, I'm not a scoring expert but to me it seems Kim got more points (the clinches definitely helped).

I think this was Csay's debut fight and I can tell she has a bright future ahead of her.

Neil,

If this were 2006 then I would say YES, every fighter and there brother would want on these cards. It's 2007 now and there are more promotions out there. A lot of them with top quality production and match making.

A lot of this is due to Steve Alley paving the way for these new promotions, amoung others.

However, look at the ones that have been started and then failed repeatedly.

Camron looked damn good tyler.I was a lil afraid about the strenght of his chin cuz of past fights but i think it was his heart that won the fight. His head movement was good even tho he got tagged he was moving well and i think it took some of the blow off.He diid keep coming.I'm very proud of him.The stand up was close but on the ground he dominated. Those tri's would have put most of us to sleep so big props to Bryant(great name by the way)for hanging in there.By far the fight of the night.

Indeed. Just a little time to heal and the Bear will be back at it stronger and better than before. At this point what you look for is to learn and get better in every session and fight. They cut the cast off to check the paw next week to see if it is healing right and if it is cast it back up. Then simple contidioning and aplipicable functional exercises to stay in shape untill the green light for training. We all had some fun and nlaughs and learned somethings . Even if it was fighting with one hand is never a good thing. Especially against s tough guy. LOL
