QOTW: MMABuzz Event Coverage PDF Print E-mail

qotw.jpg

It's been a few weeks since we've had a 'Question of the Week'. That's mainly due to all the shows that have been going on. Since we have a bit of a lull before the next round of shows, we figured it was time for another question.

This week's question is 'What sort of event coverage to you want/expect from MMABuzz.com? And how would you like your write-ups written?'

Let me explain this a bit. Our last write-up for the Steel City Rumble show was in no way written to bring controversy, yet it did. MMABuzz.com wants to be a place to harbor discussions, not create them. A lot of time went into the write up and we just wonder if people would rather just read the results and comment on them.

J.R. Gordon has his own unique style he brings to a write up. JR has a 'trained eye' for MMA and his results are more blow-for-blow of each fight.

So, basically, 'How do you want it?'

All we ever get are glowing reports about these local shows. Stop being promoter fanboys and do some objective reporting.

Give us the DIRT!!!

(sheds a tear for 2Pac even though I think he's still alive and living on an island somewhere so his music keeps coming out) I think anytime you have a write up where the writer is giving more than just the results- ie. puts his/her thoughts into the piece there is always room for controversy. There are always two (or more) sides and everyone has a different angle and opinion of what really happened. Saying that, I like to read more than just the results, it gives me a much better idea of what happened, sometimes a first round KO or sub is a one sided fight and sometimes its a good fight where one guy just gets caught. The writer/editor just needs to be careful that not too much opinion gets put in to make one fighter or his/her camp feel like someone is being disrespected... but that does lead to some interesting "debates"

First, Vince you have WAY to much time on your hand.

Second I agree with Nasty, I liek facts, rather then opion with everyone being so close to home.

I wrote a couple of write ups for a little bit, for local shows, and some people asked why i was as "controversial" as I was in my UFC write ups, and I would say "man I don't want my tires slashed in the middle of the night."

Meaning that we all live together.

Another example is there were some people, who were trying to cash in on MMA, and they thought in a write up they would talk s**t to me, thinking I would blow up and just give them attention, when in all reality all I said to people ws "I'll see them at a show". That didn't mean physical harm, because I am a huge wuss, but that meant I would look them in the eye, and give them a piece of my mind.

Stories should be results, and JR type write ups. let others bring the drama.

THUG LIFE!

People seem to like the 'Fight of the Night' that we hand out each fight.

What about adding 'Sub of the Night' as well?

and knock out too. Just don't pay 70 grand liek zuffa.

I thought about the Knockout of the Night. But you don't really see that many KO's locally. Seemed when I first started covering shows there were many more (basically cause anyone who wanted to fight was thrown in the ring).

If there were more than one KO in a show I would be all for the KO of the Night.

And as far as the 'Promoter Fanboys' comment. That's fair. I think you have to step back and look at the purpose of this site, to PROMOTE local MMA. The negative comments about the shows don't necessarily help that effort.

That being said there is kinda of a line that I don't cross in regards to what a show really looked like versus how it comes across in a write up. But, that's where the comments come in. People usually say in their comments what I'd like to say in my write up.

yeah people comment enough if they don't liek a show, MMBuzz shoudln't do that.

I think its great that you stay so impartial and just try to present what happend the way it happened, there are plenty of people out there to give there opinions and tell the rest of us what they though about a fight or event. I do like fight of the night and sub of the night but maybe it could be voted on by posters that were in attendance? And you could hook the fighters up with a prize pack or something (I like the colorado fighter tee)

more pre and post fight interviews...
pre fight more on what each fighter thinks of his or her's opponent..
it would be nice to have somekind of covrage on the fight via web, like youtube or something... like local mma radio or video show....

Most local mma sites/reporters won't give critcal reviews of the shows in Colorado. Their reports are mostly fluff-jobs generated by the desire to maintain that ringside seat and backstage pass.

How about some objective reporting?

Did you miss the whole part where he siad that he reports the FIGHTS, and has public comments for users to report their experience witht he promotion?

Plus I hope you are not talking about miek with the ring side seats. The reason mike doesn't go and be "objective" is because he covers the shows for the fighter, not for the promotion.

Trust em, users can comment on what they think about a show.

How about including attenance fighters or estimated attendance to the fight reports?
April 24, 2008

ChrisZacher said:

I think "estimated" would be hard , and probably piss people off. Also you could maybe do attendance, but the promoters are the ones who keep track of that, so you really might not know if it is the truth or not. Unless some how you can get with the venue who is throwing it.
April 24, 2008

MMAbuzz said:

Attendance would be cool to show. My problems with that are:
1)Who's figure you using?
2)How many seats were comped?
3)No matter what the site reports I'm sure people will not believe it.

But, T, thanks for the feeback, and keep em commin...
