Tap or Snap
August 18th, 2007
Castle Rock, Colorado

The fights lived up to the hype. That’s all I can say. Three knockouts and many other great finishes at the Tap or Snap in Castle Rock, Colorado. Brian Lee and Steve Valdez did not disappoint as they put together a twelve bout MMA card. The show featured five title fights, four being pro, along with some other great matchups.

The MMABuzz.com Fight of the Night went to Josh Huber and Jamie Addie. Addie controlled the first round with great ground work, but round two belonged to Huber.  Josh took control on the ground and eventually sunk in a deep armbar at 1:32 of the second round.

The main event featured James Funny and Jeff Ford. These two heavyweights slugged it out at the beginning of round one. Funny had a nice takedown and dominated on the ground with blow after blow to Ford’s head. The referee stopped this fight due to unanswered strikes at 3:28 of round one.

Yeah great card lived up great to the hype also. Best venue, and best feel I have ever felt at an event.

Funny looked great, and did awsome, and being in control on the ground.

Cammozzi looked AWSOME and I think set the bar for the professional MWs in Tap or Snap

Spencer looked great and put on a ground and pound clinic.

There should be no doubt the Murillo was out and couldn't continue on. Next time though Camron should leave no doubt in anyones head and jump on his oppopnent.

Danny Richards show great heart, to end the fight on the ground.

Tyler Freeland showed size doesn't matter, but Axtel also showed his amazing wrestling skills.

Liana Perdirtz, for her first fight looked amazing, and was in total control the whole fight.

Huebert looked sick in his fight, controling the first half of the first round on his fett, and looking sick off his back on the second.

great great fights, and I hope to see another card in castle rock.

great job to Brian, also Sergio, and brett roller did great on commentating, but I am not to sure about myself. Crazy presure, but I guess we'll se on the DVD. Kind of overwellming, lol.

great fights, great venue! but one thing that kinda pissed me off is that one particular referee always seems to stop his fights too early! i mean try and give the guy a chance if he's in trouble. Curtis Thrasher always give fighters a chance if they're in trouble!

One thing people have to understand is 'intelligently defending oneself'. I sit ringside and I can see and hear a lot. The refs will tell the fighters that they have to 'intelligently defending them self', if not they will stop the fight. The refs job is to protect the safety of the fighters while also giving fighters a chance to come back if they are in trouble.

Also, you will see refs allow a little more punishment in PRO fights versus AMATEUR fights.

I don't think any of the fights were stopped prematurely last night. Even the last fight with Funny and Ford was a good stoppage, in my opinion. Ford was taking a lot of shots to the ears and these were hard shots too. But, like all sports everyone has a different opinion, which is why I love the comments and hopefully MMAbuzz is a safe place to post those comments.

Great card. I was disappointed in them dropping the Trinkline/Dwan fight, I always like Dwans entrances and Dean is a good fighter and fun to watch as well. Also it sucked that Frankie didn't show, I wanted to see J fight. Huber was impressive, his stand up is awkward, but very effective. Addie had very good ground and pound in the first round. It was a great back and forth fight. By far the most exciting fight in my opinion was Shorty vs. Ryan. Both hurt the other on the feet and the crowd got nuts. Shorty is powerful, he's a tough fighter midget or not and Ryan was in a lose lose situation in my opinion but had a lot of heart and courage to even take the fight, plus he rocked shorty and kept him from takin it to the ground, I had the chance to meet and talk with Ryan when we were setting up the ring, I like that guy, he's a cool cat. Cameron looked the best I have seen him, his defense and counter striking was great. When he rocked Murillo and he fell back he looked like he was going to defend himself but the ref got in between them, it was a wierd stoppage. Camozzi is a bad man, totally dominated, he's got a very bright future in this sport. Spencer looked great too, controlled every aspect of the fight and like Zacher said displayed some textbook ground and pound, but DeWolfe was game and did pretty well, unfortunate for the injury. Funny/Ford was kind of disappointing in my opinion. I didn't agree with the stoppage, but I wasn't very close so I couldn't tell, but from where I was sitting it looked premature. Who knows. I had a good time and it was a great show and crowd. Got to finally meet Zacher. Mike hooked me up with a shirt, appreciate that pimpin. Met and talked with Dean a little. Good times. See ya'll next time.

going with what kpeazy said... dissapointing stoppage in the main event and the a weird stoppage with the dollar/murrilo fight. Jose got rocked and the referee stepped in already! Both fights were refereed by that guy.Whats up with that? Fighters are able to get rocked and come back and STILL WIN a fight

dude Nurillo fight was stopped by the ref because Cam stepped back and was like "he's done" and you know what? Murrillo was done.

The Funny fight, again I will say, the ref warned him many times, and you will hear on the DVD. Also I am sure Surge can back up me when I say the punches he was landing were hard!

I agree with the guys that were sitting ringside, primarily Mike and Chris.

Murillo was stopped because he reached for the ground, looking for it. I know this because I asked the referee, and as he was explaining it, I was able to watch it on the slow motion replay.

The Funny fight was stopped at the right time as well. The appropriate warnings were given, and too many unanswered shots calls for a stoppage. When a fighter is on the ground, only getting hit, the referee doesn't want to keep the fight going.

Those of us that are at ringside have a distinct advantage in seeing and hearing more than those that are seated a few rows back.

Sitting ringside: Jeff Ford was warned way to many times to defend and he didn't, that fight was a well deserved win for Mr. James Funny, congratulations!!!

Jose Luis was definitely jacked, his inner ear was bleeding, which is NOT good, I think Cam knew he was hurt bad and the ref did an excellent job!

Being a ref is not an easy job and as a fan we would always like to see more action, but when a fan will actually take the time to train and step into the cage, then they can complain or make comments.

Congrats to all the fighters, excellent work and it shows all the hard work and time you put into training.

Love you guys,

Anne

PS I will have your pictures soon.

A big thanks to Brian and Steve for putting so much hard work into this show. It definitely paid off. The place was packed, the crowd was hyped, and the fights lived up to the hype.

I love watching the respect between fighters. It's great to see guys beat the crap out of each other and then also make sure each other is ok. I still remember seeing Spencer Hooker walk over to Matt DeWolfe's corner and explaining to them that Matt's shoulder popped out. You could hear in Spencer's voice that he showed serious concern for Matt and wanted to make sure he was ok.

Looking forward to seeing Brain and Steve follow this up with another great show. Hopefully we get to see Dean and Dwan square up, also I'd love to see J.Jackson vs Vincent O'Donnell again. *hint hint*

Great night of fights to everyone. I am sorry that Dwan and I were not able to fight but I hope we can rectify that on the oct. show. I can't do south dakota or even fight in sept. due to other obligations but I do feel that we need to square up and finish our business. Dwan says he wants to drop to 170's which I respect, but before he does, I hope that we can engage in oct. at 185's. What do you guys think?

Some of the observations I had about the fights are this:

1) The crowd was one of the best I have ever seen at a Colorado show. It didn't matter who the fighter was, the crowd was cheering for them. Everyone was loud and people don't realize how much that helps the fighters in the ring.

2) The slow motion review was really cool. During the post fight interviews everyone was able to see what was going on to end the fight. With that, Rob from Eastern Slope Production did an excellent job. It was a pleasure working with him.

3) I'm glad the boxing commission allowed the fight commentary at ringside. I looked over at Chris Zacher and either Sergio Perez or Brett Roller and they were always talking about something. Everyone will hear them on the DVD. Keep it up guys.

4) You don't see many MMA cards with a full on knockout. This one had 3! That is almost unheard of. However after each one the opponent was sincerely concerned about the other fighter. This is sportsmanship at its best.

5) Vernon Garner fought his fight debut and suffered a loss at the hands of Nick Macias. Nick is good fighter and definitely earned the win. Congratulations. To Vernon, keep your head up, and keep training. Thing were very caotic that night and I feel as if I let you down by trying to do too many things. It won't happen again.

6) To all the fighters. You put on an excellent show and win or lose you all deserve to stand up tall and tell everyone "I fought on that card!" To Brian and Steve, you guys keep getting better and better. Thanks for all you do for the fighters.

Sounds like one of the best cards in Colorado lived up to its hype. I have to say there were some suprises for me. Wish I could have been there for sure. I am pleased by the involvement of so many quality people as well as the sportsmanship. This is a great community and all those involved, fighters, trainers, coaches, promoters, announcers, commentators, should be proud of what they brought to the MMA fans in colorado. And people should be proud of their association with them. Props to you all....
