Post Fight Analysis by Damon Daniels
Good evening, people. I hope this finds all of you doing reasonably
well. I had the wonderous opportunity to wake up at 430 in the morning,
after staying up until 2 watching Entourage, to catch what sounded like
a pretty good card for a UFN show. Needless to say that I was
thoroughly impressed. The whole time I was watching, I was wondering
what Mr. Chris Zacher was doing (probably fidgeting) and thinking
(probably wishing he had some apple juice.) I wanted to remain focused
on this show, so I went without the juice. I so wish I had a couple of
bottles right. With that thought, hang on for a moment…ahhh…sweet
nectar of the gods. Now, onto my thoughts of UFC’s Fight Night…
Jordan Radev vs. Drew McFedries
Where do I begin? I know.
“First thing is that Radev is a frigging beast! He is from the whole
clan of Eastern European wrestlers that are bad asses in themselves. I
mean think of that Russian guy from Street Fighter 2, and there you go.
I don't mean his looks; I just mean that uber mean strength that
fighters like Fedora has. Yeah say it out loud with me "I will crush
you." .......man I love Rocky 4.”
Chris. Mr. Zacher. Really? This was like another episode of “When
Keeping It Real Goes Wrong.” Complete with the dude in the background
doing the robot. Oh wait…that was Jordan. At least, that’s what he
looked like in the cage with Drew, as he was getting tooled. This was
one of those, “Don’t Blink” fights, as you could’ve made wagers on
which bomb would put Jordan down. While a solid uppercut put Jordan
down, it was the subsequent two punches on the ground that put Jordan
in the stiff board position. Score one for Mr. Daniels. I am dancing at
this point.
Anthony Johnson vs. Chad Reiner
Another “Don’t Blink.” However, I was sorta bracing myself for a “Negro
Please” moment. “I’m gonna spank him and send him home crying to his
momma cuz he got beat by a Black man.” That was corny. Rampage he is
not. This fight would have had me holding my forehead in disgust if
Anthony would’ve lost. Good thing he only needed 13 seconds to “spank”
Reiner and put him to sleep.
Roan Carneiro vs. Jon Fitch
Okay. Had I had some apple juice, I would’ve spilled it on this one.
The first round would have cemented me as THE MAN when it comes to
predictions, however, after the anaconda failed, it didn’t look too
terribly promising, as Roan could do nothing but lay and pray on Fitch.
The second round spelled disaster and disgust for Roan as a double-jab,
cross, hook combo dropped Roan, then after some GNP, a “gimme” RNC was
applied for the win by Fitch.
Thiago Tavares vs. Jason Black
Let me start with this. Black looked very very bad. I do recall someone
saying how he was such an awesome wrestler and so on, and that he was
on par with one Matt Hughes. After I finished laughing my ass off, I
began feeling a little sympathetic toward Mr. Zacher. To say that Black
got tooled would be a gross understatement. Not only did he look like a
rookie in the cage, the hair and huge mutton-chops were just wrong.
Tavares put on a very impressive display of BJJ. Hadn’t seen anyone
that slick in a while. It was a welcome change of pace to be honest.
What with the first couple of knockouts and all. A lopsided victory by
Tavares via triangle choke.
Spencer Fisher vs. Sam Stout
This was an awesome fight, hands down. Fisher came in looking like a
totally different fighter. A lot more relaxed and focused. Along with
the much improved striking, he looks as though he’s turned a corner,
finally. If he keeps fighting like this in future fights (to include
his wrestling and ground work) he will definitely be a force to be
reckoned with in the LW class. Now, not to take anything away from
Stout, but he was clearly outmatched and outhustled in this fight.
While he had some good combos and kicks in there, they were too few. I
don’t imagine a third fight between these two happening anytime soon.
It’d be completely unnecessary. Fisher is just too much for Stout. This
was the only televised fight that went the distance. Fisher by
unanimous decision.
Now I’m going to sit back and prepare myself for Saturday night. Gotta
stock up on my apple juice for this one. Apple juice and nachos...can't
wait. UFC 72…oh yeah!!
