What is up people, here I go again with my heart….like a drifter I walk alone in the dark….wait I meant to say “What’s up people, here we go again with another edition of the worlds least famous MMA blog, The Zacher Factor”. Excuse me if I am all caught up in some kick ass hair metal, but you see I have been celebrating a glorious occasion that has happened in my life, thus the reason why I didn’t post an edition last week. The occasion I speak of is a reply that the BAMF that we all have come to either love or hate responded to a tweet of mine, the BAMF being UFC president Dana White, and the response “LMFAO”. I am still hung over from the celebration I have had the last two weeks, and I vaguely remember watching some MMA during my drug induced celebration, so here we go. If I start typing out some hair metal lyrics don’t blame me, blame the cocaine.

(White Snake and I have two things in common, we both kick ass and we both have 3 fans.)

UFC on Versus 2

-          Charles Oliveira lived up to the hype that was his 12-0 record coming into his first UFC fight.  He scored a sick arm bar on Darren Elkins from a transition when originally going for a triangle choke. I will like to keep my eye open for this guy in future fights.

-          James Irvin lost his first fight back at 205, and honestly I just think it’s time for him to go and get signed by Strike Force.

-          Matt Riddle looked strong in his win again DeMarques Johnson, but was almost out by a flying knee the Johnson threw.

-          Jacob Volkmann won his second fight at 155lbs and dominated Paul Kelly, who of course had zero ground game and said before the fight he disliked Volkmann more than any other opponent he has fought, because he is a wrestler. What’s with the English and their hatred of wrestlers, oh well.

-
(STUPID BLOODY WRESTLERS, WHO NEEDS WREATLING!?!)

-          Brian Stann won his fight, and even received the Fight of the Night bonus, but in my opinion it wasn’t an impressive showing, and frankly I am just not a fan of his, and I really don’t think he will ever be top ten materials.

-          Anyone ever notice how Gomi looks like the Lout Ferrugno version of the Hulk? With the hair and slit shorts he reminded me of him, too bad steroids doesn’t cause green skin or he would really look like the Hulk…wait I mean…never mind. Sweet knockout by Gomi, but I am still not convinced he will be a top ten guy again. Yeah he has power, but as we saw with other fighters, if you have better ground technique, or standing, he can look helpless. He has stated now that he wants to train in the states, so who knows maybe his game might improve.

-        (GAMMA ROIDS, ONLY FOUND IN THE LAND OF GIANT LIZARDS.)

-          I still don’t get how John Howard got on a main card, I seriously think this guy just doesn’t have the ground skills it takes to deal with C or B level UFC welter weights. Honestly I think we all know why he was put on the main card, in hopes he came across a comeback KO again. Hopefully fans now know that a crazy hair cut, a comeback from behind KO doesn’t make you main card material, I mean crap, and this is a guy who turned down a fight with Anthony Johnson because he wasn’t “ready”. Well then he isn’t ready to be a main card fighter.

-          Okami got a solid win, but honestly Munoz didn’t show anything special in the fight. What to do with Okami next? Maybe match him against Belfort, or a rematch with Sonnen?

-          Jon Jones, man oh man, I don’t even know what to type. This dude goes into fights that we all think will test him, and makes it look so easy. The guy reminds me of Michael Jordon, just simply because he is so great at it, and is humble at the same time. It’s definitely time to step up his level of opponents to the UFCs “A Level” 205 lbers and a great opponent would be Forrest Griffin in my opinion. It was rumored, but quickly smacked down by Luke Thomas of MMANation and BloodyElbow.com by tweeting that a creditable source has said the rumors are true. Well then I say maybe the winner of Little Nog vs. Badder. I can see it now, Jones leaps in the air, with his tongue sticking out, lands an elbow on the top of whoever’s head, and wins the fight and comes out with his own line of shows…wait I am mixing up him with someone…

-

(If you tthink about it Jones has the potential to reach this greatness.)

UFC 117

-          Dennis Hallman looked great cardio wise in his fight for the most part, and came up with a win against TUF alumni Ben Saunders. Weird moment was after the fight Hallman apologized for his comments on HDNets show “Inside MMA”. In case you didn’t see his Inside MMA appearance he basically said 50% of MMA fighters use steroids. Foot meet mouth, ass meet chewing from a one Mister Dana White. Either way, who to match him up against? A rematch with Hughes would be sellable, and for you that do not know Hallman tapped out Matt Hughes twice back in the day.

-

(No caption needed, .......well I guess one was.)
-

What the hell was up with Struve’s lip? Holly crap I would have been freaking out, but instead this lanky homeboy brought the pain to Morecraft. Kind of sad to see Morecraft knocked out, dude was rocking one killer Guns N Roses tattoo, and if you like GnR you are one cool hombre in my book.

-
(SHANNA SHANNNA KNEES .,...KNEES...SORRY SIDE EFFECT FROM MY COKE BINGE.)

-          Hendricks is the real deal, enough said. I am a fan of this dude, and he has crazy potential. Who should he match up against next? Jeez who knows, the division has so much depth when it comes to contenders, it is hard to say. I didn’t realize till I read an article( http://www.themat.com/section.php?section_id=3&page=showarticle&ArticleID=15797) that Hendricks has played the “bad guy” in his wrestling days. This can easily transfer to MMA, and he could very well be a Koscheck 2.0.

-          Phil Davis is the real deal, pink shorts and all. While he is definitely a contender, I just don’t think he is a Jon Jones level contender. Who to match him up against next? Why not a Stephen Bonnar, see how he handles him.

-          Rick Story, man this dude looked like Hazelett humped him mom, ate his food, and gave his X Box 360 the red ring of death. I have to call bullSh!t on the whole tap and rush thing by Story, which is legal, but in my opinion some sh!tty MMA manners. Either way Story looked strong, and pumped and destroyed Hazelett. Hazelett is now saying he will fight at 155, which should be nice, and hopefully he will get back to his winning ways.

-          Roy Nelson proved that a huge friggin gut and having heart has something to do with each other. Dude was getting pounded more than *insert random sex joke here* and kept coming. Props to Dos Santos for keeping his cool, and not blowing his wad *insert random “that’s what she said” here* One thing I would have loved to seen in the fight, and everyone else at my house watching it, is leg kicks from Dos Santos. Now Dos Santos waits to see who comes up the victor of the Cain vs. Lesner fight. Also rumor is now Big Country may face Shane Carwin, we shall see because it all depends if Carwin can put his all out war with MMA news sites on twitter to rest before hand, or not suffer “lactic acid issues” from twittering so much.

-          I have been a Matt Hughes fan for years now, while a lot of people have called him a hick, douche, assh0le and other things, but I have always respected his heart and skills. I honestly though Almeida was going to win, but I was overcome with joy (did I seriously type that? Sounds like a TLC movie moment) when he won. No idea what he should do next for a fight, but I think the UFC could sell a Hallman rematch.

-          Clay Guida rocks, and I love to watch him fight, but I have to say my wife has total disdain for the guy because he looks creepy and gross. I wish I could get a picture of the look on her face whenever she realizes he is about to fight, looks like the look she has on her face when she looks and me in bed and thinks I am asleep.

-          ( I MEAN HOW COULD A WOMAN NOT LOVE THIS?)

-          John Fitch fought, really? Wow

-          Man, watching Silva vs. Sonnen was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do in my life. Rooting for someone who “Embraces the Grind” (wait I acted like I didn’t watch the Fitch fight, damn) it seems as if time slows down.  Minuet takes 10, a round takes 30, it is so hard to do, especially when your heart rate is sky rocketing. That fight was epic, that’s simply all I can say, epic on a Guns N Roses level, epic. Oh and one more thing, all these people who “hate” Sonnen for trash talking need to realize something, FIGHTERS SELL FIGHTS IDIOTS! Seriously, we can live in Disney Land and pretend that fighters should all be Kind Authors, but in reality they have to feed themselves, and guess what, because of Sonnen’s trash  talking UFC 117 shows signs of having the most buys ever for a card headlined by Anderson Silva. It just gets annoying when you start realizing a good percent of MMA fans are almost emoish in the nature when it comes to MMA.

UPCOMING MMA

-          Just going to throw a quick comment here (writing about two UFCs is tiring), you all should watch the opening of Bellator which will start their female 115lb tourney, and on Friday night watch Strike Force challengers one night 135lb female tourney that will decide a contender for Sara Koffman.

Here we go yo..here we go yo..so what’s what’s the ….ah never mind, if you are a Tribe Called Quest fan then you know where I am going with this. Either way, it’s been a little bit sense I have brought a Zacher Factor to all of the 4 people who read it (a shout out to my wife who does, after I pay her 20 bucks to), but there is actually some pretty cool scenarios I want to talk about, so here we go…….yo

(It's The Tribe 'yall, look alive 'yall)

Strike Force Challengers 9

-          So first thing is first, I really kind of just didn’t get into the show. I usually love the Challengers cards, but this one just didn’t get me excited, except for the co main event that featured perhaps one of the handful of fighters I am actually a “fan” of.

-          Mike Kyle won his third fight in a row with our punching your mom, kicking my dog, and taking a dump in the middle of the ring.  Do I really care? No, not really, but knowing Strike Force they will probably throw him in a 205lb title fight after King Mo’s first title fight.
(Just a public warning, that could be your puppy.)

-          So OK, here comes my Zacher “Holier Than Thou” rant about MMA. WTF is Scott Coker thinking now? Has he just lost all the skill of a promoter that I respected, and even thought would be good for MMA, I mean damn, dude just straight up got more tools for his trade, and is now messing up more than the first time I tried “romanticizing” a woman.
(She just did what a lot of the blogs reader wish they could.)
What the hell is Coker thinking making one of his champs fight as a co headliner , while a HW prospect that hasn’t really proven himself is put as the main event. It’s like he is losing it, that he can’t handle the pressure, and has zero control over his promotion. Let’s looks at some brilliant things he has done so far with his show….

-          He had Jake Shields fight Dan Henderson on his final fight on the contract, where Shields man handled Henderson and took the money and ran, which left Coker with a massive failure.

-          He said pretty much that some other WWF wrestler with zero experience in any combat sport, should be given respect like Brock, even though Brock was a division 1 champ, and all around freak of nature.

-          Gave someone who lost his last fight a shot for the HW title, while not having his #1 HW fight for the belt, and instead lost to an underdog.

-          Had a woman who scares me very much, who thought about posing in playboy which scares me even more, fight a chick who had a .500 record, while having an undefeated dominant female 135lb champ fight a legit contender on a challengers card.

-          Now don’t get me wrong, I know promoting is probably one of the hardest things in the sport to do next to getting punched in the face, but the performance of Coker himself has failed sense he stepped up to be competition to the UFC. In the end, he is failing , almost like said first Al Green treatment I gave to a lady.

(Smoooooooth, just like me)

-          In the end, Kaufman proved everyone wrong, and I won’t repeat what’s been on every MMA site out there, but PUT HER ON THE MAIN CARDS! That  is all, carry on, warp factor six….ENGAGE.
( A friendly message from Captain Picard and I)

UPCOMING CARDS

UFC on Versus 2

-          This card’s undercard features some up and comers, and some guys who haven’t been performing up to par lately, and nothing really has me excited on it.

-          Originally Joe Stevenson was supposed to fight Gomi, which was a great fight, then to find out Tyson Griffin is fighting him? That is …..jizz in my pants……..material
.
("and I Jizzed....in...my pants" if you haven't seen this video, look for it on Youtube, hillarious.)

-          Okami vs. Munoz can answer a lot of questions about each fighter, but in the end I seriously see Okami taking it with a brutal TKO, after seeing Okami just destroy Linhares on the feet, and seeing Munoz almost get finished by Grove on the feet, well it doesn’t look to good for Munoz. Unlike Grove, Okami has good skills to keep it on his feet, to avoid where Munoz will try to take it probably after getting rocked.

-          The main event is again a testament to what I have said in a gabillion blogs, and said a gabillion times while running my mouth to my friends, that the UFC is finally learning how to build contenders, and avoid a train wreck like Franklin vs. Quarry. Each fight we see Jones in, we are seeing more questions answered about him, also with the coach of Greg Jackson, I really see bright things in Jones future.

UFC 116

Originally I was going to post this earlier this week, but I didn’t want to bump any of the new blogs down. So originally when I wrote this it was going to cover UFC 116 and talk about Dream 15 coming up, but now I will post the results.

-          First I will like to say this card kicked butt, not only with the fights, but with the tickets sales. Early estimates are said to be over a million PPV buys and also more than one “of the night” bonus handed out. After the slump from the beginning of the year, looks like the UFC has shot back up. This is the first time in a while where I have excited during the whole card.

-          The Gerald Harris fight was ok, until the end which was explosive. I guess Gerald Harris has been show on Sport’s Center over and over again.

-          I remember when people were calling Gorin Reljic the next Cro Cop, with his being from Croatia and all, and supposedly be a kick butt striker, but turns out people were right, when you talk about becoming indecisive and over rated in MMA once they get in the UFC.

-          Petruzelli’s fight was great, if anything in the fight the one thing we learned from the victor, Richard Romero, is that he can definitely take a punch. I will be honest when I say I am happy to see MMA’s version of Big Gay Al lose. I’m not a homophobe or anything, but when you purposely go out of your way to make people feel weird by acting gay to make up for a lack of talent, is ga…..er I mean, lame. It reminds me of my son dresses up as a Jedi to get attention, except my son is cool….and six, you see getting attention by doing stuff like that is something a kid does.

-           Petruzelli and Richard Simmon, both have bad hair and are attention whores

-          I know that people are going to get upset by what I am going to say now, but here goes. Schaub reaffirmed my opinion of him, by ruining an impressive win, by acting like a complete douche with what he did after the fight. You would think he would be more humble after getting knocked out cold two fights ago.

-          http://urdirt.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Roy-Nelson.jpg

-          I am a Sotiropoulos fan now, after two wins against impressive opponents, and looking to p tier, I am now excited to watch him fight. Dude has a great attacking guard, and some wicked clean stand up. Also anyone put together the connection with him walking out to Iron Man by Black Sabbath. He’s an Aussie, and Ozzy sings for Sabbath….oh yeah.

-           I'm smart and stuff

-          The Bonnar vs. Soszynski fight was great, I loved it. Great stuff, back and forth, I can’t even write any notes about it. Just loved it, had brawling, and great technical inside Thai fighting by Bonnar. Too bad Wandy doesn’t fight at 205 anymore, or him vs. Bonnar would be a great fight. Bonnar vs. Diabite would be a great fight also.

-          Man I was telling MMA Buzz user Kpeazy during the Lytle fight how sad I think it is he fights brawling now just to make a FOTN bonus, but in the last two fights it has been some sick ground work that has one him his fight. BTW for a second I though Lytle was going to die there, thinking that he was out from the darce choke, but the whole time he was A-ok, good technique to be able to avoid going out on that choke. I think sometime Lytle’s whole “I like to brawl and stuff” thing is an act. Also Lytle vs. Serra II will be happening at UFC 119. I think this fight will be the completely opposite of the first one, meaning it is going to be a fun fight to watch.

-          I am a Leben fan, enough said. Leben vs. Wandy needs to happen. BTW I love Joe Rogan also sees Leben like a Zombie, but he thinks 28 Days later zombies, while I feel Romero. Too bad I don’t get his funny joke also because my friends would love to hear something funny rather than my retarded one liners. Also now Akiyama vs. Bisping will be the main even for UFC 120, which in my opinion makes no sense, but I hope it is one of those free taped delay Spike TV cards.

-          The main event lived up to the hype, Carwin looked great, Lesner looked great, the ref did great. Good stuff, hopefully now Lesner will get respect. Props to everyone in that fight.

-          Dream 15

-          UFC and PrideFC vet Nakamura won a not so entertaining fight in his Dream debut.

-          Ishida looked good at his 145 lb. controlling his opponent with his wrestling. Hopefully we will see him in the WEC, but he will probably stick around in Japan because they have some legit fighters at 145.

-          Manhoef lost a fight I thought was made for him to win, but in the end he lost, and looked disappointing…..which he does a lot. What surprises me is still how many people are in love with this guy.

-          Mousasi beat UFC vet Jake Obrien who came in overweight and honestly looked like he didn’t even train a day.

-          JZ Calavcante won his warm up fight after coming off of injury, and hopefully we will see him competing at Strike Force.

-          No matter Aoki bother me as a person, I have made respect for his ground game by submitting Kawajiri with an Achilles lock.

Bellator 23

- First thing is first, if anyone pays any attention to woman’s MMA, and no that does not include Gina Carano’s chest, then you would know that a HUGE upset happen on this card. Rosi Sexton fought Zoila Frausto, which everyone assumed was going to be a “give me” fight before next season’s female 115lb tournament. Well everything but that happened, and a brutal knee was dealt to Sexton that had he looking like she was dodging a bullet in The Matrix.

-(To bad this doesn't dodge knees too)

- I will point out though watching this fight was very annoying because Sexton’s annoying accent just bugs be, and Frausto’s whole “warrior princess” thing bugs me, at least someone got knocked out.

- Alexander Shlemenko scored a weird, but legit TKO of Bryan Baker in the finals on the 185lb tournament. Now this is one of those I picked wrong, but the reason behind it is because the fighter I picked to win didn’t follow the game plan I thought they would to win the fight. I have no idea why after seeing Shlemenko’s last fight Baker didn’t try to take the fight to the ground right away. Oh well, I think he learned a lesson and we will see. If Baker would of won that fight, and then beat Lomabrd (The 185lb champ for Bellator) he could have had a great case to get in the UFC. Now we are stuff with a Lombard vs. Shlemenko fight in which I pretty much can say Lombard will follow the game plan Baker didn’t.

- Joe Warren, man enough cannot be said about this dude’s heart. I picked him to lose, and once again I was wrong. Before I get further into discussing this fight, I want to get into a subject that drives me nuts, and that is douche MMA elitists. If you want a definition of what once is, continue reading. A MMA elitist is a MMA dork like me, but one who has the snoody attitude you usually find in people who mess around on the I-Pads at Starbucks. With these people there are hip opinions that they must have to fit in, and they usually change. One main opinion is that Dana White is evil and bad for the sport, but currently there has been even a hipper opinion lately, and that is scoring 10-8 rounds in MMA, because if you are uber cool and know MMA, you would totally be smart enough to score one…..totally.

-  (MMA Online Elitists, about as annoying as Lady Gaga)

- So the reason I am rambling about this is because while at work I was reading the play by play of the fight, and saw some elitists scored the first round in the Warren fight 10-8. So I get home, watch it, and I wonder WTF were they watching. I was expecting a one sided murder, but was let down. Yes it was a dominant round that he lost, but def not a 10 – 8, oh well.

- Also Nick Mamalis won his fight, which I was unable to see. I can only imagine how good Seth Daniels of Fight to Win feels. A last minute replacement for his tournament, who ended up winning it, ends up looking good on a big show.

- Strike Force – Fedor vs. Werdum

- Josh Thomson fought Team Quest fighter Pat Healy in a very entertaining fight, which ended up having Thomson win by submission in the third in a fight that was 1 round each. Later turns out that Thomson had hurt his ribs early in the fight, and in my opinion ring rust might have been a factor too in Thomson not looking like his usual self.

- Before anyone blames the ref in the Cyborg vs. Finney fight people need to blame two other groups, one being StrikeForce for evening putting he fight together, and Finney’s corner for not stopping the fight at all. The fight went from amusing at first, then became a major buzz kills. I felt guilty watching it, like the one time I watched bum fights, like my eternal soul was damned for witnessing such a thing and not stopping it. I watched it will about 11 peeps ate Dr. Alex’s house, and I was about to convince them we should travel to San Jose A – Team style to stop it, but instead I just kept drinking beer, oh well.

- (MMABuzz Power user, better regonize)

- When I heard Scott Smith had a new boxing coach, and watch out for some major changes in his game, I was pretty excited, but then after the first 30 seconds I realized nothing changed at all, except that Le finished the fight like he should have the first time.

- So this is it, this is where I get to talk about Fedor losing. Before writing this, I was driving around and I thought up this great article I was going to write about my opinions on Fedor, but honestly it’s probably been said by a million different people on a million different websites, so I will do a brief summary. So here goes, I am ecstatic that Fedor lost. The reason why I am ecstatic is because the way him and his management team handled themselves with any promotion reminded me in a scary way of boxing. That’s a dark road to go down in the early stages of our sport, and I know MMA elitists will say Fedor is sticking it to the “man”, who is Dana White, but honestly his actions were sticking it to the sport of MMA. I have no idea what the UFC offered him, but I am pretty sure it was a better deal than anyone else (if the numerous MMA news sites are correct), and if Fedor would have accepted, we could have seen some of the best MMA HW matches sense PrideFC. Instead, Fedor not only demolished two fighters cut from the UFC, he demolished one promotion that signed him. Also do I think Fedor is a great fighter, yes sure, but do I think he was overhyped by nostalgic Pride fans?

-(Once again, I hate these douches)

- Oh yeah I do, just take a look at his record on Sherdog to see what I am talking about. Yes he had some good wins as a contender in Rings, and later in Pride, but you also see his record is very padded, and in one of his most hyped fight, against Cro Cop, took over a year in the making due to his management. All I am saying take a look at what I am saying with a clear head, and you might see exactly what I mean.

- UP COMING SHOWS

- UFC 166

- I’ve always known that Kendall Grove’s chin was made out of clouds, but I am starting to wonder if his brain is. Lesson to be learned, do not talk crap about something your boss make a grip load of cash off, especially if you are fighting on their channel.

- Seth Petruzelli, who I seriously think has some issue going on in his head, will be fighting on Spike now, we’ll see if he can stay in this time, without any quasi homo-erotic pictures hopefully.

(one of those times when a photo speaks a thousand words)- - Colorado native Brendan Schaub will be fighting Chris Turchscherer and his bleached blonde hair. Also funny fact, both these guys train with Carwin, and Lesner respectfully.

- The Pellegrino and Dr Alex’s cousin should be a great fight. If Sotiropoulos wins he will be a legit contender, plus he will get a goat, feta cheese, and a gold chain from Dr Alex.

- The Bonnar vs. Soszyski fight really doesn’t interest me, but it is a decent filler fight.

- The Matt Brown vs. Chris Lytle fight will be fun, but depressing in the end knowing that Lytle has so much more skill then to stand and bang, but he does it for a pay check.

- Sexyama vs. Leben has me excited. Sexyama is talking so smack how Leben is a step down from Wanderlie, who Leben stepped in for on short notice. I really hope Leben takes his head off, and lotion comes spilling out. If you all don’t have any idea what I am talking about, here’s a back story. Sexyama has been called a greaser way before BJ Penn’s mom ever stepped into court. During many Judo competitions he has been accused of doing something to his GI to where it is slick and slippery, not sure of how, but it is a known cheating method in Judo. Also when he fought Sakuraba he was accused of greasing, well he calls it “using moisturizer”, and actually found guilty, but as always in the land of the rising sun and Yakuza, K-1 slapped him on the wrist.

- The Main event, not even going to say anything but hurry the hell up, this fight will be good!

The Ultimate Fighter Final

-          I will be honest, these finals really get me too excited, but I usually end up watching them by myself or with my wife and a six pack to keep me company. I usually get in this weird zone where I am tired, but awake, and I think my hand slowly finds its way into my waist band like Al Bundy….except I don’t have a black belt in BJJ.

(This guy just ebodies the power users of this site.)

-          The first match, well frankly I really didn’t care about it, and I still don’t. I don’t get all excited to see a “bad guy” lose, and none of the fighters in the first fight have the potential to even be top ten in my honest opinion. Yager did what he did to get some fame and money, and it worked, can’t hate on that.

-          The Fisher vs. Silver fight had me excited, and turned out to be a great technical striking match, but for some reason, and I honestly have no reason why, this fight kind of bored me. I think it may have been that Fisher came into the fight looking kind of out of shape. There is nothing weirder then seeing someone’s love handles flapping on a 72 inch HD TV.

-          I think I said in one of my blogs from a few years ago that Leben is like a zombie, he may be slow, but once he gets you, you are screwed. Watching his fights, at least to me, is like watching the old school George Romero flicks, where you are just waiting for the inevitable, and when it happens it is so cool. I think I am a Leben fan, maybe I am the only one on here? Well as I write this, word is Leben is replacing Wanderlie at UFC 116 against Akiyama.

Man Matt Hammil has so much heart; no one should ever question it. Not only did he have staph (which my wife noticed right away), he had a broken hand, and an eye poke. Mentioning the eye poke, what was the deal with Herb Dean taking the point away? Some think it was the eye poke, but I wonder if it was because of him spiting his mouth piece out and Dean thought it was intentional. Who knows, nothing has been spoken publically about it. This is now five loses in a row. I definitely think it is time for the UFC to cut him, maybe he can get some fights in Strikeforce. Oh and on the staph infection you should read this  http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2010/6/20/1527486/doctor-hamill-fighting-with-staph.

(Don't worry, in my expert opinion that is not a bullet hole, just staph...carry on, nothing to see here)

-          The main event, once more not to sound pompous, but I really didn’t care for it, the same reason as the first fight on the main card. Also I know it is a cool motivational story, and I respect McGee had to go through the OD in his life, but I am so tired of hearing about it. I hope after this next season of TUF they put it on hold for a year or two and let the talent pool build up, so it can meet the demands of the show. But the finale has over 2 million viewers, so I am sure my idea will not happen, lol.

                                                      Strike Force - Los Angeles

-          First I have to point out my total disdain for Murillo Ronaldo and his commentating. He and Frank Shamrock I think are two of the most unprofessional commentators in MMA. Ronaldo is always talking crap when a fight is on the ground “Fans want to see a SLUGFEST, not this” and his annoying sexual comments during chick fights. He needs to go back to his pro wrestling gig, and save us from what he has to say. But on a more positive note, Quadros, and Militech did a kick ass job as they usually do, maybe they should always have Gus Johnson do commentating and get rid of Ronaldo. I can only hope the MMA gods are listening.

-          It’s sad, but I always have more negatives to say about Strike Force then positives. The production was frankly amateurish and horrible. I have seen Barney the Friendly Dinosaur episodes that have looked better than this last Strike Force card. The lack of interviews after the fights, fail, the lack of replays after fights that ended quick, bad fail, the porn music playing, epic fail, and that weird podium where they talked to the audience, EPIC EFFING FAIL!

(Not only does a purple dinosor have a better production team, he could commentate better then Ranello. FACT!)

-          One good thing is the fights ended up being great, KJ Noons vs. Conner Huen was a barn burner, and Conner really brought it, good stuff for him. Anyone notice how Noons had a Lou Ferrigno type hairstyle? Maybe I am the only one who notices, but if I could I would grow my hair out like that.

(KJ stole my idea for my hair style! bastard)

-

Kennedy dispatched Prangley pretty quick, and I hope Kennedy is in the rumored Strike Force middle weight tourney. I will be honest, I am excited for that eight man tourney, but as always, the crappy production of Strike Force will ruin it for me probably.

      -          The Zaromskis bandwagon has officially derailed, and let’s sees what they do with Santos now. I have a feeling he may get fed to Diaz, we’ll see. I still think his wife could kick his ass.

-          Watching Lawler fight is like how I said watching Leben fighting is, except this time the zombies failed. On that note, what was it with Strike Force, mainly Ranallo trying o force Babalu and Mo Lawlel to fight. Just seemed very forced and really kind of uncomfortable, like seeing couples argue in public uncomfortable.

(ITS MOTHER EFFEING ZOMBIES!!!!)

                                                            Bellator 22

-          I was completely wrong about the Askren vs. Hornbuckle fight, Askrens grappling style, which is labeled “funky” seem to work. Great fight, you all should check it out.

-          You got to see Lisa Ward fight, another build up for the kick ass 115 female tourneys they will be throwing.

-          Overall fun card, I hope season 3 is as good as 2.

                                                                WEC 49

-          What a great card! WEC has never had a bad card sense Zuffa purchased it. Reminds me of how good Shooto used to be, crap it is pretty much the US version of Shooto circa early 2000s.

-          The first fight of the night pit former 135lb champ Wineland fought Campuzano. The fight was entertaining as always, and Wineland continues his winning ways, even though he keeps his hand down by his ankles.

-          Wow, Danny Downes for some reason reminds me of some Simpsons character, props to him taking the fight at the last minute, but something about him made me happy to see his lose, no idea what, but something.

-          After a year off from his win against Pulver, he got a quick win over L.C. Davis.

-          Hominick vs. Jabouin was an entertaining fight, and may be a candidate for fight of the year in some people’s eyes, but for some reason it just lacks something in my opinion, that didn’t make it special.

-          The main event, wow, great fight but some very weird stuff. First the point taken in the second was legit, but in the third the ref didn’t take a point for a nut kick again? And the scoring was off the wall, 29-28 for Varner, 29-28 for Shalorus, and 28-28 draw. Seemed all of their bases were covered. Want to know who gave it to Shalorus? Ding ding ding, Cecil Peoples, oh yeah a Johnny Karate who won’t leave the sport alone, yay!

                                                             Upcoming events

                                                                 Bellator 23

-          Two Colorado guys fight for the tourney wins, Brian Baker, who I think will win, and Joe Warren, who I think will put on an entertaining fight, but will find himself in a submission attempt he cannot get out of.

-          Female standout Rosi Sexton will be fighting in here too, once again I am excited for next seasons tourney.

                                                Strike Force Fedor vs. Werdum

-          Oh and “Co-Promoted”  by M-1…*snickers*

-          Well Scott Smith vs. Cung Le 2, not excited really.

-          Cyborg fights to defend her belt against a challenger who hasn’t fought on Strike Force before.

-          Fedor vs. Werdum, in Fedor’s eyes is more important that Carwin vs. Brock, which in my opinion is BS. Fedor vs. a guy who got cut from the UFC, and two top ten fighters in the world fighting in the best org in the world. Sounds though anyways that Fedor is thinking retirement, either way I am so over Fedor and the M-1 games.

-          Oh and no promotion of the fight what so ever, I mean seriously, how does Strike Force think they will compete with crappy production and no promotion. I think they learned a valuable lesson; signing Fedor does not be able to compete with Zuffa.

Getting Emotionally Tied to a Fight is Just Like Dating a Crazy Chick

Close your eyes, I am about to take you on a trip that crosses space and mind, we are going to travel back in time. When you close your eyes you can travel plenty of ways, you can do the cheesy 80s sitcom method to where clouds cross your vision and you hear harpsichord music, or you can go the 70s sci-fi way where there is a pinwheel in the background and there is a photo impression of you spinning going  “ahhhhhhhh”, or my all time favorite “The Terminator” way , where you show up naked, in a crater, and walk into some biker bar and beat the crap out of all of them for their threads and you ride off into the sunset on one of their Harleys.

(My prefered method of time travel)

Either way come back with me to early 1995 where yours truly is a young 18 year old watching UFC 4 “Revenge of the Warriors” with two good friends. I was a newly found MMA fan; actually I didn’t even know what to call the sport at the time if I remember correctly. I was almost like a religious zealot at the time, running around with a VHS recorded copy of UFC 3, showing everyone I could possibly show it to, because it was by far the coolest thing I had ever seen in my life. So to be able to watch the next one, on VHS was something that my friends and I were excited for. So when we threw the VHS tape in and started watching the event we were drawn in right away. Well the event was one of the tournaments again and we saw Royce Gracie, who we thought was the second coming of Chuck Norris, work his way easily through Ron Van Clief, and Keith Hackney (who was in the first MMA fight I ever saw), but there was this new guy in the tourney who fell into our hearts with his Freddy Mercury mustache and his suplexing of Anthony Macias, his name was Dan Severn. His fight against Royce Gracie, all 15 minutes and 49 seconds of it had me and the edge of my seat, heart racing, and blood pumping.  That was the first time I got so emotionally tied to a fight to where I wanted to see one person win so bad, that it almost got me sick when Severen lost.

(When I learned a Gi > a mustach.)

So for about 10 years after that I would find myself once in a while getting emotionally invested to fights. Usually it dealt with some of the fighters I liked, started with Royce, then to Coleman, Kerr, Sakuraba, Hughes, then probably Rampage Jackson. Sometimes the highs where the highest you could get and the lows were the lowest you could think. Listen to me; I’m starting to sound like Leonardo Caprio in Basketball Diaries. I remember one of the highs was June 12th 1996 (I had to look up the date, lol) and I had just gotten to my first unit in the Army a couple of weeks prior. I had talked my roommate into letting me order UFC 10 on cable in our barracks room. That was the first time Mark Coleman fought in the UFC, and my friends and I all became fans, and in the last match we had probably over 10 yelling guys in one barracks room cheering for Coleman while Don Frye was getting stomped by him. I ended up meeting some good friends that night who took such an interest in NHB (No Holds Barred, no not the movie with Hulk Hogan, but the old school name for MMA) that we would often try to figure out moves we saw and such things as that.  (YES YES YES!!!!!!)
I think the lowest was the second time that Rampage Jackson fought Wanderlie Silva for the second time. I was in Iraq as a contractor with about a month left to go on my contract. I remember it being late afternoon, and I was watching and alternate way *cough stream cough* to watch the PrideFC High Octane event. Co workers of mine said I looked nuts while watching the fight on a small laptop, and I can only imagine what they saw. At the time I had long hair and a beard, and looked like a Manson Family member, and especially to be so worked up for a fight I probably really did. They said out of nowhere I just stood up, walked outside, and started pacing while smoking a cigarette in 100 degree weather. That was probably after he got kneed into oblivion.

(ugh...where's the beer and my emo music)

So by now you are probably asking what is up with the title of this article, well here it goes. If you are a guy reading this, and you have dated a crazy chick, you know damn well already what I implied with the title, if you are a guy who never had to deal with a crazy chick, or a chick who really has no idea what I am talking about, here is an explanation. When you date a crazy chick, it is always fun at first. They are sometime spontaneous, and so up in the air, it is actually a trip to be around them at first because normal chick usually don’t act like that, and well other things are usually fun too, but I will keep it PG – 13 around here. Well once the thrill of the first couple of weeks goes away you start realizing that chick is bat shit crazy, and the highs  you once experienced being around them soon come crashing down around you and reality slaps you in the face and says “hey guy, this chick over here, yeah her, she’s NUTS! RUN!” and if you are smart you usually run away and learn your lesson.

(MMA can be one crazy chick sometimes.)

Well getting emotionally invested in a MMA fight can be just like that, when it goes your way you feel like you are on top of the world, your fighter won!, and nothing can get you off your cloud, and that is until someone you root for loses, then you a reminded MMA is a cruel sport where people get punched in the face while their kids and wife cry watching ring side, and little puppies are probably punched back stage too. But around 2005 I think I evolved as a MMA fan somewhat, and soon found myself not getting emotionally invested in fights anymore, I was pretty much watching fights to store information in my memory banks.

 (Computing like Data...that's pimp)

Don’t get me wrong, I would still get excited for a good matchup, but I would never want to see someone win to the point to where I was cheering for them or talking shit, I would just pick a winner, and why I felt they would win. That was until about a couple weeks ago, and once more I was dragged back in.

Around the last week of May of this year I was miserable, getting stressed at work about stupid stuff, getting irritable with my kids, but I think at the time I knew a vacation was coming up, and I was in desperate need of one. During the build up to my vacation the UFC was airing he UFC Primetime show for Rampage vs. Rashad, and slowly I felt myself getting invested emotionally with the fight, because I had been such a huge Rampage fan, I was getting excited to see him fight, and wanted him to win so bad. Not only that, but the day I was to arrive to my mother’s house UFC 114 was going to happen. The whole time I kept telling myself the 16 hour drive would be worth it because that night I would get drunk and watch a fight with one of my favorite fighters back in the day, and watch him kick some ass in the peaceful environment that is North Dakota, but as I am sure we all know things didn’t turn out that way. Not only that, but the hardest thing about watching a fighter you want to win, lose, is when their opponent has a perfect game plan that just nullifies them, which happened that night, but what’s worse than that? When the MMA gods decide to give you a little hope, like when Rampage rocked Rashad in the third, but then pull it away from you to watch you suffer. The whole time during the fight I was texting my woes to MMABuzz user Kpeazy, so he could feel my pain, but I doubt he even cared.

In the end I was reminded why I don’t get emotionally tied to fights anymore, because unlike crazy chicks, the only thing them and fights don’t have in common is at least you can get laid with the crazy chicks….gigitty.

The Zacher Factor #1

chriszacher

So before I jump into writing the new and improved “The Zacher Factor” I just wanted to let you all know what my goals and expectations are going to be with the blog, and why I now have a newfound passion for contributing some writing for MMABuzz that will cover the larger aspect of the MMA scene worldwide. First I plan for this to be a weekly blog that will cover what has happened recently, and what is going to happen with upcoming shows. I also plan to have rumors that are in the mist, news about fighters, and also some links to stories that I think some people may find informative. Mix this along with the Zacher humor you have all come to love, along with the Zacher opinions you have all come to hate, and Wa’ La’ you have the Zacher Factor. My goal is to be a source of information about the world scene in MMA for the casual fan who visits MMABuzz, like someone who is a relative of a local fighter who visits the site, or even someone who is involved in the sport, but doesn’t have the time, or the dorkness like yours truly, to pay attention to the information I will share. Also I plan to once in a while to post a blog that will be an editorial style writing where I hopefully will cover something that will cause some debate, and discussion about the sport we all love, so without further ado I bring you The Zacher Factor…..*cue cool music*…wait I don’t have cool music…come on MMABuzz get me some cool intro music.

RESULTS FROM EVENTS

Bellator 21

So if you haven’t been following the second season of Bellator then you have been missing out of some good MMA, and some grade A match making. I will be honest, the first season of Bellator was almost a flop for me. The Telamundo commentating minus the whole “GOOOOOAAAAAAL” and random kick ass Tecate commercials, and frankly the tournaments didn’t really pull me in.

(Tecate...The King of kick ass beer commercials)

In my opinion they pretty much threw two of the tournaments to push the stars they had, Eddie “Show me the money UFC” Alverez, and Hector Lombard’s , each whining their perspective tournaments at 155lbs and 185lbs. Now this season they have some great guys they built up in the first season, Lyman Good, and Joe Soto , along with some prospects, and even Roger Huerta. Before I let my mouth ramble on, and trust me my good friends get to hear it enough already, let me get to the last show which was the 21st installment. Pat Curran, younger cousin to WEC/UFC vet Jeff Curran and Tapout Show alumni, won the 155lb tournament with a close decision over Season 1 finalist Toby Imada. Curran looked impressive with a brutal KO win over Mike Ricci, and a decisive decision over Roger Huerta, who in my opinion was signed to win the tournament. Now sadly a good prospect who Bellator could have continued to build up is now going to get fed to the big bad wolf Eddie Alverez. I know anything can happen in MMA, but it doesn’t look to good for Curran.

Another quick note about the show Megumi Fuji won her fight which was pretty much an advertisement for season 3’s 115 female tourney, either way she has me sold on it, along with the 135 tournament that Bellator will be featuring.

UFC 115

I know I don’t have to do a back story about the UFC, so I will do this in my normal bullet fashion, so you ready….you ready…lets get it on!...sigh I know lame, lol I’M TRYING HERE!

-          TUF 9 WW winner James Wilks bounced back from his disjointing loss in his first fight of his contract with a win against Peter Sobbotta in a unanimous decision. I think we will be seeing Sobbotta getting cut with two straight losses in the UFC.

-          Once again David Loiseau fell short after his third try in the UFC. I am a firm believer that sometimes a fighter can get beat up in a fight so bad, that they are never the same, and I think Rich Franklin did that to him years ago. Strikeforce would be smart to scoop him up.

(Some people just never come back from losing to guys with American flagg ankle wraps.)

-          Even though I think Mac Danzig is a tree hugger, I still think he got a raw deal in his fight against Matt Wiman. I don’t understand why the ref lifted his army up and called the fight before it even dropped, oh well. Like Mac Danzig said, being a ref is a hard job. With that quote and the way Danzig handled it, I gained some respect for him, well also he has a kick ass last name……motherrrrrr….don’t let your children come out and play….

(MOTHER..........Don't let your ki....wait I am suppose to be writing about MMA.....Damn)

-          One of the many topics we had while watching this at Dr. Alex’s pad was how it is kick ass there is this new wave of fighters coming in, and how the UFC has found a nice medium on how to treat them between how boxing does it (give him 30 fights with 30 fighters who combined record is 30-297) and how the UFC used to treat contenders (see Rich Franklins highlight clip knockout of Nate Querry). The matchups have been spectacular, and Dunham vs. Griffin was one. It is exciting to see a new wave of blood coming into MMA that are talented. One funny thing is that the real prospects don’t follow under the template “Tapout” fighter you meet in the bar.

-          See above note for Condit vs. MacDonald, another good match up for a young prospect who note only impressed people in the first two rounds, but also had a lesson he learned in the third with losing the match by TKO with about 9 seconds left. Hopefully we’ll see MacDonald jump back from this loss.

-          Rothwell vs. Yvel didn’t live up to what a lot of people thought it would be. One comment I heard last night while watching was “Once again, another fight they put together thinking it will be a standup war is anything but”.

-          I really thought Thiago would beat Kampmann but I turned out to be wrong. Kampmann looked really good in his stand up, and hopefully Thiago will quit his job bad ass kick asser dude, and train 100% like most people who compete in the UFC.

-          Barry had Cro Cop beat, but I think instead of hugging him, he should of finished him.Hommie may walk out to Duran Druan, but he don't play that.

-          Once again, The Iceman made people feel worried, and a little scared by getting brutally knocked out and looking like he was having a conversation with GOD about past mistakes in like *cough, cocaine and porn stars, cough*. Please guy, retire, your punch drunk, and I think some of the partying messed you up a little bit to, and in all seriousness I just hope he wakes up and retires. Also no one cares about a third match with Tito, just move on. Chuck has done so much for the sport, I seriously feel bad when I see him get knockout, I was never a huge fan of his, but I always respected him. I just don’t want to see him become another Jens Pulver to where every time I see him lose a little piece of me dies. Also kudos to Franklin, if anyone every talks crap about Franklin (which seems to be a trend on the internet, good article about it here... http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2010/6/13/1516483/the-rodney-dangerfield-fighter) they should shut up after him knocking a guy out, and having a broken arm.

-          Overall pretty good show, one of those shows was there isn’t a major top 10 fight, but lives up to be a great card.

UPCOMING EVENTS

-          This week there is a TON of MMA going on, so I will breeze through real quick at some upcoming major shows.

-          Strikeforce is having a card this Wednesday the main event is Lawler vs. Babalu, which I see Lawler taking by KO, probably after having a brick thrown at his head, getting hit by a car, getting pushed out of an airplane at 10,000 feet with no parachute, and being forced to listen to Lady Gaga for 10 hours straight. Another notable fight I Tim Kennedy vs. Trevor Prangley, which could have implications in the Strikeforce MW division that is about to have its champ be taken away (good promoting there Strikeforce, giving someone a title fight without a contract. You can catch this card on Showtime

-          Bellator 22 is happening on Thursday of this week and they will be having the finals of their WW tournament with Ben Askren vs. Dan Hornbuckle where I see Hornbuckle getting a sub in the fight. I will tell you what, for a high caliber collage wrestler, Askren looks real sloppy in his grappling in MMA.

-          The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale will be taking placed on Saturday, on this card you will see the final fight for the season, along with Hamill vs. Jardine on the main event (Hamill by KO) and such vets as Chris Leben and Spencer (Where in the world is Reggie Warren Jr!?!) Fisher. Also Colorado’s own Chris Camozzi will be on the undercard, which is nice seeing a lot of people who made it into the house didn’t get on the undercard. Speaks volumes for how much Chris must have impressed them. What’s crazy is that when I watch these finals the one fight I really don’t care about is the final for the house. No insult to the fighters, but the show is getting played out pretty bad now. You can catch this on Spike, which I am sure you all know.

-          WEC 49 is going on Sunday, and honestly I am not excited about this card, but like always I will be DVRing it on Versus.

-          Sengoku will be having a card on Sunday also at “Oh my GOD it is early” on HDNets.

Rumors

This will be a section where in the future it will have more information, but as of now I only have one thing I think is worth sharing. Oscar De La Hoya was interviewed a couple of days ago and said Mayweather vs. Pac is about to be signed, I guess only time will tell. On the other hand Mayweather is claiming he might “retire” for 2 years, who knows.
